Hurricane Michael Claims

Important information for home or commercial property owners who will be filing insurance claims for hurricane damage.

Hurricane Michael made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida on October 10, 2018. With maximum sustained winds of over 150 mph and a storm surge that reached as high as 14 feet, Michael is the most powerful storm to hit the Florida Panhandle in recorded history. As Michael neared, around 30 million people in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina were under a hurricane watch or warning, or a tropical storm watch or warning.

Initial CoreLogic analysis indicates that combined residential and commercial insured losses from Hurricane Michael could range from $3 to $5 billion, with wind losses accounting for $2 to $3 billion and storm surge losses, including losses covered by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) adding $0.5 to $1 billion to the total.

We’ll fight to recover the maximum compensation owed to you under the terms of your policy: 877-803-2897

Did Hurricane Michael’s high winds damage your home or business?

It can take years to recover from the pain and destruction caused by a hurricane like Michael. Unfortunately, some property owners will be victimized again during the recovery process – this time by insurance carriers who, for any number of reasons, deny, delay or make exceptionally low offers for valid insurance claims.

McDonald Law Firm has extensive experience in helping victims of natural disasters recover the maximum compensation available under the terms of their homeowner’s or commercial insurance policies.

Deadline for Filing Property Damage Lawsuit (wind):

Depending upon the language of your homeowners or commercial insurance policy, in most instances you have just two years from the date of your insurance company’s settlement offer or denial letter to file a lawsuit.

Did Michael’s storm surge or rainfall cause flood damage?

It’s only covered if you have separate NFIP or private flood insurance.

Your standard homeowners or commercial insurance policy does not cover flood damage. If your home or business suffered flood damage from Hurricane Michael, you must have purchased flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) or from an approved primary flood insurance carrier to file a flood damage claim.

Deadline for Filing a Flood Damage Lawsuit:

Depending upon the language of your flood policy, in most instances, you have just one year from the date of your insurance company’s settlement offer or denial letter to file a lawsuit.

Deadline for Filing a Flood Damage Proof of Loss:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued notice to all policyholders that the deadline to file a signed and sworn Proof of Loss for Hurricane Michael claims has been extended to 365 days from the date of the loss.

Is your Hurricane Michael insurance claim settlement offer too low? Has your claim been denied outright?

Find out if you have grounds for a lawsuit.

It costs you nothing to find out if you have a case. Call for a free claim review: 877-803-2897.

Our insurance lawyers fight wrongful denials and unfair settlements every day. As part of our claim review process, we’ll…

  • Review the language of your insurance policy
  • Assess the damage to your home or business
  • Evaluate the reason for your insurance company’s decision

If we determined that you may be owed more for your damage and you hire us to represent you, our first step will typically be to give your insurance carrier the opportunity to resolve the situation. It’s our experience that insurance companies are significantly more likely to respond to a lawyer than to individual policyholders. Regardless, we’ll fight to recover the maximum compensation available to you under the terms of your homeowners or commercial policy.

How much it will cost to hire an attorney?

Our legal services will cost you nothing out of pocket. If you hire us for your Michael claim dispute, we’ll work on a contingency fee basis, which means you never owe our firm any legal fees unless we successfully resolve your case through settlement or trial.

Real people. Proven results.

“very helpful”

I just wanted to thank you and your firm for being there when I needed you to be and for helping me out during one of the most difficult times of my life. Without your help I would have been at the mercy of FEMA, and we all know what that means. You have been very helpful, and everyone that I have spoken with at your firm was always courteous.

“very happy right now”

I just wanted to express my gratitude for all your efforts. I was getting nowhere fast trying to accomplish this on my own so I gave you a shot. You all were very methodical and kept me in the loop every step of the way. Would I have liked the process to be quicker? Yes, but I am sure you would also. In the end, I got more than I expected going in so I am very happy right now.
