McDonald Law Firm Reviewing Claims for Xarelto Lawsuits
McDonald Law Firm is evaluating claims from individuals who may have suffered uncontrolled bleeding, pulmonary embolism or other life-threatening side-effects or injury after taking the blood thinner Xarelto.
One of the newest blood thinners on the market, Xarelto (rivaroxaban) was approved by the FDA in 2011. It is manufactured by Bayer and marketed in the U.S. by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. Xarelto belongs to a class of medications known as Factor Xa inhibitors and has been prescribed to millions to prevent blood clots that may cause strokes.
As Xarelto use increases, injuries linked to the drug also increase. To date, the FDA has received thousands of adverse event reports linked to Xarelto. As of fourth quarter 2015, The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) reported that Xarelto accounted for the largest number of reported cases of serious injury among regularly monitored drugs.
The most frequent and by far the most dangerous side effect of Xarelto is hemorrhage. Xarelto can potentially cause many types of uncontrolled bleeding, including internal and abdominal bleeding that may go unnoticed for a long period of time.
Xarelto’s potential danger lies in the fact that it has no known antidote, or reversal agent, for uncontrolled bleeding. Xarelto users who have filed lawsuits claim that they were not adequately warned about the medication’s risk and that Bayer released a dangerous drug and misled the public about its safety.
If you or a loved one has suffered uncontrolled bleeding, pulmonary embolism or other serious complications from Xarelto, you may have grounds for a legal claim.
As the FDA continues to monitor Xarelto, this controversial drug continues to be aggressively marketed and sold at a rapid pace. Meanwhile, a number of Xarelto lawsuits have been filed across the country against Bayer and Janssen Pharmaceuticals including allegations that the companies:
- Recklessly placed a more dangerous drug into the market, that has no great advantage over existing medications;
- Knowingly promoted Xarelto as a more convenient solution for blood thinning despite the fact that there was no known reversal agent; and
- Failed to warn the public of the dangers of irreversible bleeding caused by Xarelto.
